Victron (Netherlands) and Fronius (Austria) are the two European inverter benchmarks. Different philosophies: Victron is modular and off-grid friendly; Fronius is mass-market grid-tied optimized.

Victron: off-grid king

MultiPlus II and Quattro are the reference in cabins, boats, RVs and remote installs. Modular, talk to each other, software config via Cerbo GX. Excellent with any battery. 5-year warranty.

Fronius: premium grid-tied king

Symo, Primo and new GEN24 Plus are grid-tied and hybrid inverters for homes and businesses. 97-98% efficiency. Robust build, 10-15 year warranty. Solar.web is the best monitoring portal on the market.

Compared pricing

5 kW Fronius Primo: $1700-2100. 5 kW Victron MultiPlus II: $2800-3500 (includes inverter + battery charger + auto transfer). Per function, Victron is cheaper if you need the whole ecosystem.

Battery compatibility

Victron: any battery (LFP, AGM, gel, lead). BMS communicates via Cerbo GX. Fronius GEN24 Plus: only BYD HVS/HVM, LG RESU FLEX, BMZ ESS X. More closed ecosystem but easier to configure.

Outage backup

Victron: automatic backup in <20 ms. Works as whole-home UPS. Fronius GEN24 Plus: PV Point with separated loads (not whole house). Frequent outages: Victron, no question.

Verdict

Off-grid or hybrid with outages: Victron. Simple grid-tied residential no battery: Fronius for price and reliability. Business with advanced monitoring: Fronius. DIYer valuing flexibility: Victron.
