Solar panel rebates and tax credits (2026)

Map of the major incentives in the US, EU and LatAm. Which stack, and how to claim them without getting lost.

Published on 2026-05-146 min read

Solar incentives are a puzzle that changes every year. In 2026, well combined, they can cover up to 60% of the investment. Here's the current map by country and region, plus the steps to claim them in the right order.

United States: ITC + state stack

Spain: three layers

Spain has a 20% income tax deduction (capped at €5,000), 50% property-tax rebate for 3-5 years, and 50-95% construction tax rebate. On top: regional rebates from €300 to €3,000 per install.

European Union

Next Generation EU is active through 2027 with self-consumption and shared-solar lines. Typical: €300-600 per peak kW installed, with storage bonus (€140-490 per kWh) and rural-municipality bonuses.

How to claim them in the right order

First apply for grants (most require a proforma quote, not the final invoice). Then install and commission. Then file the municipal rebate. Finally claim the tax credit when you file. Doing it backwards costs you money.

Combine incentives with a clear payback calculation and check quotes against 2026 real prices.
