How much do solar panels cost in 2026? Real prices
Turnkey breakdown by install size: materials, labour and traps that inflate the quote.
Solar prices have fallen for a decade, but quotes vary wildly. Here are real 2026 ranges and the line items most often inflated by unclear contractors.
Turnkey price by size (grid-tied with net metering)
- 2 kW (apartment / small home): $4,000-6,200
- 3 kW (home 850-1,075 sq ft): $5,600-8,500
- 5 kW (home 1,300-1,950 sq ft): $8,500-12,500
- 6 kW (large home with AC): $10,500-15,000
- 10 kW (large home + pool): $15,500-21,500
Adding storage
Each installed kWh of LiFePO4 battery costs $700-950 in 2026 (all-in). For a family of four, a 10 kWh battery adds $7,000-9,500 to the base quote.
Breakdown: where the money goes
- Panels: 25-30%
- Inverter: 12-18%
- Battery (if any): 30-40%
- Racking + wiring: 10-15%
- Labour & install: 15-25%
- Permits, interconnection, insurance: 3-7%
Common quote traps
Watch for: unbranded or Tier 3 panels in disguise, oversized inverters you won't use, lead-acid batteries when nobody else uses them, '1-year install warranty' instead of the 10 years you should get. Always ask for exact brand and model.
