Hair dryer on solar: the device that breaks small inverters

Hair dryers pull 1500-2200 W in just 5 minutes. If your inverter is only 1500 W, it trips every time. Real fixes.

The hair dryer is the #1 inverter killer in RVs and off-grid cabins. 2000 W concentrated in 5 minutes seems harmless, but it trips a 1500 W inverter.

Why it pulls so much

Essentially a resistor + fan. Max resistor pulls 1800-2000 W. Cool-air mode without resistor: 100-200 W. Most of the consumption is heating air, not moving it.

Energy per use

Medium hair (5 min on max): 170 Wh. Long hair (10 min): 350 Wh. Daily: 100-130 kWh/year. Pocket change for the bill, brutal on instant peaks.

Fixes for small inverter

1) Warm or low mode (1000 W) instead of max. 2) Travel hair dryer 800-1200 W. 3) Towel-drip 5 min before plugging in. 4) Microfiber towel absorbs 70% of water before drying.

Low-consumption brands (eco mode)

Dyson Supersonic (1600 W but dries faster with concentrated air). Parlux 385 (2150 W with efficient ceramic). Babyliss travel 1200 W. Pro salon models, counterintuitively, are more efficient per minute than cheap 2000 W ones.
